FINGER GUNS

Comedy Sketch

“The secret to riches is the same as to comedy- timing.” - Russel Crowe

Finger Guns’ was created in response to a challenge: create a film with no dialogue, of duration under 90 seconds. The film was made in collaboration with the University of Surrey’s StagTV student television station, and was followed up by ‘Eesha’ the same year, another joint production with StagTV.

To that end, it’s fair to say we succeeded, especially with the help of the very talented Elliot Reeves-Giblin, and the use of a few classrooms and student bar at the local university for a day. That made timing tight, but with great talent in front of the camera, and a solidly planned schedule, everything came together.

The film was intended as an antidote to a string of much more dramatic productions, and is the first comedy short created by Brass Button. There will be many more in the years to come.

  • A cocky young businessman continually irritates colleagues and the public with his constant use of finger guns, but after landing the deal of his life, he is met with a nasty surprise.

  • Timing is always the biggest challenge in comedy. Brilliant on-screen talent helped a lot, however the lack of on-set sound also put in some work, allowing the director to call the beats of scenes moment-to-moment, ensuring the timing was precise for maximum flow and build-up to the punchline.
